The Ajuga is also called the Bugle Weed; it is a beautiful ground cover that blooms with blue flowers during the spring with leaves that are dark green with purple patches. This perennial does best in zones 1 thru 11, and it grows relatively fast in both full sun and partial shade. Because this plant grows low to the ground resembling a ground cover it makes it very useful for covering large areas in a short amount of time.
The Ajuga is native to Europe and is often used as a medicinal or ornamental plant. It remains green throughout the winter, helping add a touch of color to a usually barren landscape. These grow at such a fast rate that if they are not properly cared for they can become overgrown and take over an area.
